Former Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini feels Luka Jovic ‘can’t be’ the Rossoneri’s starting forward next season: ‘He lacks something.’

Jovic joined Milan on a free transfer from Fiorentina last summer, but his future at the club is uncertain as he signed a one-year contract with the Rossoneri a year ago.

The 26-year-old has never really challenged Olivier Giroud for a starting spot at San Siro this season, but he has managed eight goals in 24 appearances across all competitions, netting once every 122 minutes.

Due to his hot and cold performances with Milan this season, Ambrosini feels Jovic is not a right fit to permanently replace Giroud in 2024-25 as the Frenchman is expected to join LAFC on a free transfer in the summer.

“I’ve always had the feeling Jovic lacks something,” Ambrosini told Radio Bruno, as quoted by Milannews.

“He is a lad who can make an impact in balanced games, but he will struggle to cover a more important role. Milan create a lot and strikers have many chances. However, the Rossoneri can’t rely on Jovic as a starting striker next season.

“It remains to be seen if he can improve his attitude on the pitch, but more is required from a starting striker at Milan.”

The Rossoneri’s priority to strengthen the attack in 2024-25 is Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee. Another familiar face for Milan, Arrigo Sacchi, feels the Dutchman would be an ideal addition to Stefano Pioli’s squad in the summer.
