The Andrey Santos situation is causing some irritation among Chelsea fans. They wanted to see him in action in the Premier League on loan, but instead he’s been sitting on the bench.

Liam Twomey’s piece in the Athletic lays out exactly what’s going on.

The article makes some important points about not judging the loan just yet – Forest have played 5 games since Santos completed his move. One was the day after he arrived, so he was never going to feature. The second was against Chelsea, so he was ineligible. Yes concerns have risen in the three games since, but there’s still time to turn it around.

Twomey points out that Forest are incurring a financial penalty every time they don’t use the midfielder when he’s fit, so if it comes to January and they are still not using him, they’re unlikely to stand in our way if we want to recall him. It’s also confirmed here that he does have a recall clause.

So while it’s cause for concern, there’s no reason to panic just yet.
