Former Manchester United striker and treble winner in 1999, Andy Cole, is the latest person to sing the praises of Jesse Lingard following his performance against Queens Park Rangers earlier this week.

Lingard has enjoyed a brilliant calendar year so far after rejuvenating his career on loan at West Ham. The 28-year-old spent the second half of last season at the London Stadium, scoring nine goals and assisting a further four goals in the process.

Despite questions over his future at the club, the midfielder is taking part in this summer’s pre-season and has impressed in his brief cameos. He played the second half of the 2-1 win over Derby last week before scoring United’s first goal in last Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Lingard has now been selected for special praise from United legend Andy Cole, who has praised the midfielder for his ‘infectious’ work rate.

“Jesse has impressed me,” Cole is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website. “I think Jesse has come back with that bit between his teeth. He has got the goal, but it is not just about the goal – it is his work rate as well.

“I think his work rate can become infectious. He is putting himself about, getting in the right areas – and getting himself a goal as well.”
