Antoine Griezmann made history on Wednesday when he became Atletico Madrid's outright leading goalscorer.

Griezmann broke the record in style with a stunning solo goal against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup.

It came in the 37th minute when he beat Luka Modric with a clever piece of skill before firing a low shot past Kepa Arrizabalaga from 20 yards.

This was the 174th goal of Griezmann's Atletico career, coming in his 368th appearance for the club.

The 32-year-old France forward had previously been Atleti's joint-top scorer along with Luis Aragones, who scored 173 goals between 1964 and 1974.

Griezmann's 174 goals have come in two spells at Atleti.

He first joined the club in 2014 when he signed from Real Sociedad.

After five seasons in the Spanish capital, Griezmann moved to La Liga rivals Barcelona in 2019 before returning to Atleti a little over two years later.
