Arsenal have had a good 2023/24 season, challenging for the Premier League title and reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Despite their recent success the club are looking to strengthen the squad further ahead of the next season and have identified Bruno Guimaraes as a potential target.

Arsenal the Latest Club to Be Linked With Bruno Guimaraes

An Alternative to Douglas Luiz

It is no secret that Arsenal have been looking to add another top midfielder to their ranks. Douglas Luiz and Martin Zubimendi were both linked with the club in January and continue to be players the Gunners are after.

A winter move did not materialize for the Aston Villa midfielder as the North London side were unwilling to match Villa’s demands.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes is viewed as another potential target for Arsenal in the summer. This does not come as a surprise as the Brazilian was previously rumoured to move to the Emirates stadium from his former club Olympique Lyonnais before choosing to sign with the Magpies.

The 26-year-old has been a key part of Eddie Howe’s side and has produced 10 G/A for Newcastle in the English top division this season. This has prompted many clubs around Europe to take note of the Brazilian. The journalist adds: “Guimaraes has been excellent for Newcastle and so he has been linked with all the clubs in Premier League basically, which is normal.”

Newcastle’s Financial Fair Play Problems

Since Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund took them over, the Tyneside club have reached new highs in the last couple of years. They are considered one of the richest clubs in Europe but they must operate within the Financial Fair Play rules set by UEFA.

Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales recently admitted that the club may be forced to sell some of their stars to avoid breaching said rules. This could mean that players like Alexander Isak, and Bruno may be sold to raise funds.

This could open the door for Arsenal to make a move for the midfielder in the summer. Despite this, Romano adds that there is nothing concrete between the player and the Gunners at the moment. “I’m not aware of anything concrete regarding Bruno at the moment, let’s see later this year.”

“He’s obviously appreciated around Europe but it’s not something happening right now.”

Arsenal have an important summer ahead of them. They would undoubtedly look to add strong players to their team. Whether Bruno Guimaraes is one of those names is something that we will know in the future.
