Arsenal lands USWNT star Tobin Heath on free transfer

Arsenal have signed United States women's national team forward Tobin Heath on a free transfer, the club announced Friday.

"Tobin's record speaks for itself. She's an incredibly talented player who will bring so much experience to our squad," head coach Jonas Eidevall said in a statement.

"This is an exciting time for the club, and I'm delighted we could secure Tobin's signing as we prepare to kick off the new season at Emirates Stadium on Sunday."

Heath played for Manchester United in the Women's Super League during the 2020-21 season. However, her time in the league was cut short due to ankle and knee injuries. The 33-year-old had signed a one-year deal with United, and it was announced at the end of the season that she would not be returning for the 2021-22 campaign.

Heath is a lifelong Arsenal fan. The club is describing her signing as a "dream come true" for the New Jersey native.

Heath returned to fitness in time to compete with the USWNT at this summer's Tokyo Olympics, where they won a bronze medal, defeating Australia 4-3.

Heath has scored 35 goals in 177 international caps. She has won two World Cups, two Olympic gold medals and an Olympic bronze.

Her National Women's Soccer League rights are head by Racing Louisville.
