Atalanta are optimistic about having defender Giorgio Scalvini back from injury in time for Saturday’s Serie A clash vs Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

19-year-old Italian international Scalvini had to come off with an injury during Atalanta’s Serie A win over Empoli on Monday.

The reason for the substitution was some serious lumbar pain for the defender.

Scalvini’s fitness has therefore been assessed over the past couple days.

The big question has been whether or not the teenage defender would be able to return in time for Atalanta’s Serie A match with Inter over the coming weekend.

La Dea host the Nerazzurri on Saturday evening.

The match between Inter and Atalanta will be a big one in the context of both team’s seasons.

The Nerazzurri are currently top of the Serie A table. They’ll be aiming to consolidate their status as title favourites with a statement win over a top rival.

And La Dea, meanwhile, are currently in the Champions League places.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s team currently sit fourth in the Serie A table.

Therefore, Saturday’s match will perhaps be both team’s biggest prior to the November international break.

Atalanta Optimistic About Giorgio Scalvini Fitness For Inter Clash

Accordingly, both Gasperini and Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will want their key players available.

And despite only being nineteen years of age, Scalvini is very much a pillar of La Dea’s defense.

The Bergamo-based team will therefore be hoping to recover the defender for Saturday’s match.

And according to the Gazzetta, there is optimism in the La Dea camp.

There are still assessments that the club’s medical staff will need to make.

Scalvini has yet to really make a recovery from the problem that he had been suffering from on Monday.

But all indications are that it is not a serious injury for Scalvini.

Therefore, the Gazzetta reports, Atalanta believe that there is every chance the 19-year-old can be in action as early as Saturday against Inter.
