Atletico Madrid defender Cesar Azpilicueta was delighted to make a winning debut last night.

The former Chelsea captain impressed in the 3-1 win against Granada.

He said, "I am very happy to make my debut with three points. I had been in this stadium as a visitor with Chelsea and as a local it was my turn today, very happy with the reception.

"I have had very good feelings from the first day, they have welcomed me with open arms and I have tried to adapt to the group . Now we are in market time, with the squads not closed and I come here with the illusion of fighting for titles, but the The secret is day to day and that the Metropolitano is a fortress."

Azplicueta also had words for teammate Joao Flix, who was jeered by home fans. The versatile defender advised his teammate: "It's a complicated situation, I was his teammate at Chelsea, now at Atleti. Giving the maximum is what we have in our hands, giving the maximum for the club we represent, in this case the Atleti. Grit your teeth and keep fighting, there is no other secret in football."
