Antoine Griezmann and Atletico Madrid will open talks on a new contract this month.

Los Rojiblancos are close to their objective of a La Liga top four finish at the end of the campaign.

Qualification for the UEFA Champions League is a financial necessity for Atletico Madrid and it will dictate their summer transfer plans.

Once fourth spot is secure, Diego Simeone’s budget will be confirmed, including details on salary upgrades.

As per the latest from Diario AS, the club have already reached out to Griezmann’s sister and representative, to begin the renewal process.

Griezmann’s current deal in the Spanish capital expires in 2026 with an option to extend that by 12 months.

Atletico will offer the veteran forward a pay increase, as part of the negotiations, with a deal until 2028, by which point he will be 37.

Griezmann has previously stated his desire to play in the USA before retirement but Atletico Madrid are determined to keep him until at least 2026.
