Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past.

The 28-year-old emerged as a United target last summer when Erik ten Hag was on the lookout for a goalscorer. That was before Rasmus Hojlund was signed from Atalanta, although the manager has spoken publicly in recent weeks about wanting to sign another striker.

Guirassy has scored 27 goals in 25 matches for Stuttgart this season, with his team on course to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The striker is believed to have a release clause worth a mere £15 million and Diario AS claims Atletico Madrid are set to enter the race for his signature.

As the report outlines, Atletico are not the only club keeping tabs on Guirassy.

AC Milan, Bayern Munich and United are all cited as interested parties in the race for the Stuttgart goalscorer.

It remains to be seen how much money United will have to spend in the upcoming transfer window, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe promising to invest in the squad.

Hojlund needs competition

I have been impressed by Hojlund this season. He was immediately thrown into the deep end in unfamiliar surroundings, but we’ve seen he has an eye for goal despite having to play in a team that doesn’t create many chances.

It doesn’t help that we’ve got no cover for the Denmark international.

Anthony Martial has been non-existent due to injuries and we’re counting down the days until he leaves.

Whether it’s Guirassy or someone else, United need to identify a player who will provide competition for Hojlund, even as a back-up.
