Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has discussed his future after being linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

The Uruguayan is arguably Barcelona’s best defender and with the club under pressure financially, Araujo has been subject to speculation over his future at Camp Nou.

It has been long understood that key members of Barcelona’s hierarchy want Araujo to remain at the club, and the highly-rated defender has now insisted he has no desire to move elsewhere.

“There has been a lot of talk about this issue, but I’m happy in Barcelona,” Araujo said, as quoted by Football Espana.

“In addition, we have to finish the season well because there are still challenges, also with Uruguay with the Copa America.”

Araujo was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford while Raphael Varane was sidelined with an injury. Even though the French centre-back has since played his way back into the Erik ten Hag’s team, it remains to be seen if he will be handed a contract extension when his current deal expires.

United need to invest in their defence this summer to find an adequate partner for Lisandro Martinez. It has been a hindrance to be without our best defender for most of the season, though it will be a major boost to have him back fully fit.
