Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has been through all the heartbreaks that the capital club has experienced in the UEFA Champions League over the last decade. As a result, the veteran defender notes how satisfying it was to overturn a tie on the road against FC Barcelona.

The Parisians have normally been on the other end of a remontada whether it’s against Barcelona or Real Madrid. It comes as no surprise when asked about his memorable moment with PSG, Marquinhos points to the second-leg win over the Catalan club.

“My fondest memory in Paris? I experienced one of my best emotions when we turned around a defeat at home and went on to secure a victory there against a legendary football team (Barcelona this year),” Marquinhos shared with Canal Football Club (h/t Le10Sport).

“For me, defending or saving a goal brings me greater joy than scoring one. It pumps me up, energizes the team, and adds value to the game. Because I knew my team could do it, and I knew it was very tough to accomplish because in eleven years here at Paris Saint-Germain, we haven’t turned around a situation like that. It was a magnificent moment; this match will always be etched in my memory.”

Nonetheless, the Parisians’ job isn’t done, as they have Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semifinal. Luis Enrique and his team have already faced the Germans twice this season in the group stage, picking up a win and a draw.

If the capital club can advance past Dortmund, they’ll head to Wembley Stadium to face Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
