Nicolò Barella outplayed Chelsea star Moisés Caicedo in Italy’s 2-0 win over Ecuador on Sunday so Italian media wonder how much the Inter star is worth considering that the Blues paid €116m to sign Caicedo last summer.

Barella was Italy’s best player in a 2-0 victory over Ecuador on Sunday. He scored the second goal for the Azzurri and put in a dominating performance in the middle of the park. As Calciomercato.com highlighted, ‘Bare’ outplayed his direct opponent, Caicedo, in central midfield. So how much is the Inter star worth?

Chelsea paid €116m to sign Caicedo from Brighton last summer, but the 22-year-old was nowhere near Barella’s standards at the RedBull Arena last night.

Barella, 27, joined Inter for €44.5m in 2019 and is under contract with the Nerazzurri until June 2026. The Serie A giants are planning to raise his €4.5m-a-year salary and have begun talks to extend the midfielder’s contract at the Stadio Meazza. Barella could become Inter’s highest earner, getting the same wage as Hakan Calhanoglu, so €6.5m per season.

Barella wore Italy’s captain armband for the first time against Ecuador last night and equalled Francesco Totti’s goal tally with La Nazionale, scoring for the ninth time for the Azzurri.
