Fiorentina director Joe Barone admitted that the club made three offers to Genoa for their leading goalscorer Albert Gudmundsson towards the end of the January transfer window, but claims that Rossoblu’s demands were too high.

Barone gave a quick interview to DAZN prior to kick-off between Lecce and Fiorentina in Serie A on Friday evening.

He spoke about Fiorentina’s latest additions, specifically Andrea Belotti, who arrived on loan from Roma this week, and Davide Faraoni, who joined from Hellas Verona earlier in the January transfer window.

“We have brought in two players, two leaders in Belotti and Faraoni. They have a lot of character and can strengthen the group,” Barone said on Friday evening.

He then admitted that Fiorentina had attempted to bring another player in before the Serie A deadline on Thursday evening.

“Until yesterday, we tried to sign a player but the margins weren’t agreed upon. We have a strong and united group and this is one of our strengths. In the end, we have to make the right calculations. We believe in the current squad and we are behind the team.

It is believed that the player he is referring to is Genoa’s Gudmundsson, who had also received interest from Premier League outfit West Ham towards the end of January.

Barone admitted that Fiorentina had made two improved offers after their original bid for the player in question.

“There are always two parties with these things. We made our evaluations, they had theirs. For us, they were quite high. We raised the offer twice, but it wasn’t good enough. We are happy with the team that we have.”
