In January, Bayer Leverkusen agreed a deal with Real Betis to sign Borja Iglesias on loan for the remainder of the season, as cover for the then-injured Victor Boniface. The Spanish striker has struggled since heading to Germany, and is goalless in nine matches across all competitions.

Boniface has since returned to fitness for Leverkusen, which is likely to limit Iglesias’ playing time until the end of the season. At this point, he will return to the Benito Villamarin, as the buy option the loan agreement between Leverkusen and Betis will not be activated, as reported by Christian Falk (via CaughtOffside).

“Loan striker Borja Iglesias, who was brought in in January after the now-recovered Victor Boniface was injured, is returning to Betis.”

Real Betis intend do not intend to retain Iglesias’ services upon his return in the summer, and a permanent sale is wanted. However, given the 31-year-old’s poor form this season, it may be difficult to organise this.
