Milan would need to act quickly if they wanted to hire Roberto De Zerbi, as Bayern Munich have switched their focus to the Italian coach after Ralf Rangnick declined their offer with a late U-turn. He was the third manager to do so after Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann.

According to SportMediaset, the Brighton gaffer is currently the frontrunner for the Bavarians’ dugout. They’ll have to negotiate with his team since his contract lasts until 2026, with a €14M release clause. Conversely, the Seagulls are starting to inquire about potential replacements, for instance, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, The Guardian reported.

Milan are interested in De Zerbi but wouldn’t want to pay to get him, while Bayern Munich might. They haven’t zeroed in on another option after the Julen Lopetegui fiasco, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays. The contacts with him had been going on since December. The Spanish manager was blindsided by the fan protest and the turn of events. He’s now hoping for a call from Manchester United, should they sack Erik Ten Hag.

The Rossoneri are mulling especially Mark van Bommel and Paulo Fonseca but plan to take their time to assess everything.

Our Take on Milan, Bayern Munich, and De Zerbi

He’d be one of the few with universal approval. There’s an opening to get him given his team’s lackluster season, but Brighton are notoriously tough to bargain with. None of the alternatives feel totally right for the Rossoneri. They shouldn’t take a shot in the dark or settle for a run-of-the-mill coach.
