Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that defender Alphonso Davies has been diagnosed with mild myocarditis.

Davies rose to stardom during Bayern’s triumphant 2019/20 campaign, during which they won the coveted Champions League trophy, with the Canadian starring down their left-flank.

He remains a key figure at the Bavarian club, but unfortunately, Naglesmann will be unable to select him for at least a month after revealing that he has been diagnosed with myocarditis.

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart and has been mentioned as a rare, but possible, consequence of exposure to the coronavirus. Davies tested positive for the virus earlier in January.

Nagelsmann revealed that Davies had been diagnosed with the heart issue while speaking to the media ahead of Bayern Munich’s clash with Koln this weekend.

Davies has initially been ruled out of action for four weeks. After that point, the Bayern medical team will presumably assess the situation to consider whether it will be safe for him to return.

In the meantime, we wish Davies a speedy recovery and commend Bayern for taking the possible link between myocarditis and COVID-19 infection seriously.
