Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski breaks Gerd Muller's Bundesliga goals record
Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski has set a new Bundesliga record for goals scored in a single season, breaking Gerd Muller's 49-year-old record.
Lewandowski scored his 41st goal of the season in the 90th minute of Bayern's 5-2 win over SC Freiburg on Saturday. Muller set the previous record of goals in a single season with 40 during the 1971-72 season.
Lewandowski only failed to score in four of the 27 matches he started for Bayern Munich this season.
The 32-year-old will also likely win the European Golden Shoe for the first time. His nearest challengers, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, are 12 goals behind.
