Tottenham Hotspur Academy director Simon Davies has heaped praise on manager Ange Postecoglou for the job he has done at the North London club so far.
The Australian manager has certainly made a significant impact since taking over and he has impressed with his attacking approach, directness and charismatic personality.
Davies believes that Postecoglou’s impact has transcended far beyond the pitch. The Australian manager has made drastic changes behind the scenes as well and they are similar to that of the former legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
“I think it’s probably even underestimated what he’s done,” Davies said of Postecoglou on the club’s ‘Off The Shelf’ podcast. “I see day-to-day in terms of…firstly is he a top coach and a top manager? Yes. But more importantly, I kind of see, and you’ve asked me questions about Ferguson back in the day, Ferguson changed the culture and I do believe that Ange is doing exactly that.
Davies has now drawn similarities between the two managers, and he believes that Postecoglou could have a similar impact at Tottenham. The Spurs Academy director has previously played under Sir Alex Ferguson and therefore he is certainly well positioned to draw the similarity between the two managers.
Ferguson managed to build a legacy at Manchester United and it remains to be seen whether the 58-year-old Australian can do the same at Tottenham now. The North London club were in desperate need of a change after the spell with Antonio Conte.
Postecoglou has certainly brought about some positive changes and he has lifted the spirits around the club. The players seem to be enjoying his approach and personality as well. It will be interesting to see if he can guide them to trophies soon. Tottenham are currently well placed to secure Champions League qualification for the next season.
