Boxing Day matches postponed amid Premier League COVID outbreak
Two Premier League matches scheduled to take place on Boxing Day have been postponed due to outbreaks of the omicron virus, the teams reported Thursday.
The match between Liverpool and Leeds United will not take place on Dec. 26 as scheduled due to five players testing positive on the visiting team's roster.
The match between Wolverhampton and Watford has also been postponed.
The Premier League has postponed 12 matches this month as the highly contagious omicron variant continues to spread, resulting in 90 new cases last week alone.
The league spoke with all 20 clubs on Monday and came to the decision to not pause the remainder of the season.
