Former Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has suggested that many football fans love to point out Gianluigi Donnarumma’s mistakes more than any other player.

Speaking to Tuttosport (via Milan News), the Italy legend was asked about how fans view former AC Milan goalkeeper Donnarumma and he clearly isn’t impressed by the regular criticism that he receives.

Milan fans in particular are guilty of amplifying every mistake that Donnarumma makes for Italy or Paris Saint-Germain due to the manner in which he left the club in 2021.

Buffon decided to use a German phrase to illustrate the point that he is trying to make about Donnarumma.

“In truth, I am not saying there is too much criticism, but I do see a certain pleasure when one can point out a mistake. I use a German word: schadenfreude. The pleasure derived from the difficulties of others. Here, I think Gigio suffers a lot of it, but he is a structured player and has already overcome these moments many times in his career,” Buffon said.

As the most prominent goalkeeping name linked to the Italian game, Buffon spends a lot of time answering questions about current Italian goalkeepers and Donnarumma is the one that garners the most attention.

He was asked whether he offers out advice to goalkeepers and he explained that he will answer questions with his opinion when asked, but he does not voluntarily give advice to players.

“Never, I never give advice. At most, if I’m asked, I answer by giving my truths: mine, not absolute ones,” he said.
