Matteo Cancellieri spoke about his role as the understudy of Ciro Immobile and his emotions following his arrival at Lazio.

The 20-year-old Italian forward joined the Biancocelesti last month on a loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy clause attached from Hellas Verona, adding an exciting and talented prospect to Maurizio Sarri’s attack. Cancellieri has shown great signs in the pre-season preparations and fans are excited to see what he can do on the pitch.

Maximiano: ‘It’s the Dream of Many to Play for Lazio’ 6 August 2022, 11:30

Speaking at his unveiling (via LazioNews24), Cancellieri first discussed how it felt to sign for Lazio this summer.

It was almost a surprise for me to return to my home in Rome, and this is an extra incentive for me.

I want to prove I can do well in a team like this, I hope to repeat the good things I did in Verona.

He spoke about former Lazio youth player Daniel Guerini, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 19.

I don’t know if this is destiny or dictated by chance. Wearing this shirt makes me remember Daniel every day. We’ve known each other since I was 10 years old. I’ll play for him too.

The 20-year-old Italian striker commented on how much he can learn working alongside talismanic forward Immobile.

The fact that I am learning another role doesn’t frighten me. Ahead of me I have a player like Immobile, I can only take inspiration from him. It’s an important opportunity. I’m also here to learn new things.

I think I can do that. I’m stealing everything I can from Immobile, seeing how he moves is a completely different role.

He spoke highly about Lazio target Ivan Ilic, who would likely arrive should Luis Alberto be sold.

I’ve been seeing Ilic play for a year and a half, he’s a very talented young man. He is very strong.

Finally, Cancellieri spoke about the Derby della Capitale and his earlier experiences with Roma.

My years at Roma have nothing to do with this experience. The derby is a special match, I’ll feel it too and I’ll play it as a Lazio player.
