Valentin Carboni looked an exciting talent in his Argentina debut and the Inter owned forward has three possible paths in the coming summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old only saw nine minutes of action in his debut for the Albiceleste senior side, coming off the bench to replace Angel Di Maria in the 82nd minute of their friendly with Costa Rica. Despite having less than 10 minutes to work with, the teenager managed to cause a splash in Argentina.

Inter sent Carboni out on loan to Monza last summer and he’s shown a number of positives in Raffaele Palladino’s squad, scoring two goals and providing four assists in 818 minutes of action across 22 matches, including a late strike against Juventus in December.

Three paths for Carboni

Page three of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Inter have grown increasingly impressed with Carboni’s growth and don’t want to lose control over his future, keen to see him in black and blue one day.

The 19-year-old will join Simone Inzaghi’s pre-season training camp in the summer, where the club will decide which of three paths is best for the Argentine talent.

The first could see him sent out on loan again next season, with the plan being to find a more competitive club than Monza in order to assist in his development.

The second could see him sold to a new club with a buy-back clause attached, possibly as part of another deal like the one for Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson, allowing Inter to bring him back when they wish.

Finally, the Nerazzurri could simply decide to retain Carboni in the first team for next season, where he’ll be exposed to the realities of the senior side and the pressures that come at top-level play.
