Lazio have received some good news from Formello after injured defender Nicolo Casale took a step forward in his recovery.

The 25-year-old Italian centre back started the season as one of Maurizio Sarri’s key players, developing a formidable partnership with Alessio Romagnoli.

Casale suffered a muscle adductor injury in training with Lazio back in October, forcing him to miss the last seven matches across all competitions. Prior to that, he was briefly distracted after being falsely accused of being involved in the recent Serie A betting scandal.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Casale has started running again on the pitches of Formello and could soon return to Sarri’s Lazio squad, bolstering the backline.

Romagnoli recently suffered a calf injury, forcing Sarri to use Patric and Mario Gila as his starting centre backs in the last two outings against Salernitana and Celtic.

Whilst Casale is unlikely to return in time for the Coppa Italia clash with Genoa, he could be back in the squad for the game with Hellas Verona on 9th December.
