Lazio have started negotiations with Hellas Verona for defender Nicolo Casale as they look to strengthen their backline.

The Biancocelesti have been looking for a new centre back for months now and the 24-year-old Italian defender has remained one of the favourites, appearing to be the perfect fit for Maurizio Sarri’s attacking system in Rome. Lazio were keen to sign Casale in January but eventually decided to return this summer.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio are now ready to make an initial offer for Casale following the opening round of talks with Hellas Verona.

The Gialloblu value the 24-year-old defender at around €15 million, significantly higher than Lazio’s €10 million valuation. The gap can be closed with add-ons and the Roman club are set to offer a loan deal with an obligation to buy clause attached.

Casale made 36 Serie A appearances this season for Hellas Verona, for a total of 2591 minutes. In that time, he provided two assists and impressed with his progressive play.
