Celtic are facing competition to sign Connor Barron from Aberdeen. The talented midfielder is attracting interest from Europe as the Pittodrie side face a nervous wait to see whether they will be able to call upon Barron for the new season.

According to The Daily Record, Belgian side KRC Genk are keen on signing the 19-year-old. Celtic have reportedly sent scouts to watch the youngster play for Scotland’s U21s as they track his progress.

Barron, a product of the Aberdeen youth academy, captained the U18s and U20s for The Dons before being loaned to Brechin and Kelty Hearts. However, he returned to the fold with Jim Goodwin taking over and the Irishman will certainly plan on utilising the youngster next season.

Celtic, meanwhile, will look to replace Tom Rogic and by stocking up on a fine talent, they would provide depth in the attacking area of midfield. It is likely that Barron is not ready for the first team at Celtic and he would be a talent for the future. However, they will need to beat off the competition.
