A recent report reveals that Celtic have received over €1 million in compensation for allowing their players to participate in international tournaments…

The European Club Association (ECA) announced record payouts totalling €233 million through its Club Benefits Programme, stemming from a four-year collaboration with UEFA covering international tournaments from 2020 to 2024.

These distributions cover player involvement in the 2020/21 and 2022/23 UEFA Nations League campaigns, the European Qualifiers from 2022 to 2024, and EURO 2024 in Germany last summer which saw Spain defeat England 2-1.

As a result, Celtic have received a precise sum of €1,027,861 – approximately £883,500…

ECA president Nasser Al Khelaifi, also the President of Ligue 1 table toppers Paris Saint-Germain, provided an in-depth discussion on the four-year deal between the two organisations.

He said: “I am very pleased to see that more than 900 clubs from all corners of Europe have benefited from this unprecedented distribution under the Club Benefits Programme, which is a key pillar of UEFA and ECA’s Memorandum of Understanding.”

“This initiative recognises that clubs play a vital role in the ongoing success of national team football through developing, employing and releasing players; and also that the national team game, in turn drives the development of clubs and their communities.”

“This harmonious relationship perfectly reflects the great collaboration between UEFA and ECA today, driving growth, innovation and the positive development of European football in the interests of all.”

Celtic received nearly 50 per cent of the €2,794,840.15 allocated to Scottish clubs for their players’ participation in international competitions.

The announcement on the ECA’s website said: “ECA has been instrumental in advocating for increased financial returns to clubs that release players for international duty.”

“This record-breaking distribution highlights the value of strong cooperation between ECA and UEFA in shaping policies that directly benefit hundreds of clubs.”
