Rather than praising over 50,000 Celtic supporters for delivering one of the biggest crowds in European football that week despite the kick-off time being shifted to 3.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon, UEFA have instead issued the club with €15,000 fine.

It has been confirmed this afternoon that Celtic have been fined by UEFA over a banner displayed by the North Curve/Green Brigade during the Europa League match against Ferencvaros on 19 October, which Celtic won 2-0.

The banner was protesting against the bizarre and inconvenient kick-off time for the match has been deemed to be anti-UEFA and has been was described as “provocative and offensive” by the organisation’s control ethics and disciplinary body. As a result Celtic and the club have been fined €15,000

The banner, which depicted the TV show Countdown and included the letters FCUKUFEA, was seen as a criticism of the decision to schedule the match as a 3.30pm kick-off to avoid a clash with Champions League games being played later that evening.

Underneath the main banner was a second one which read: “Conundrum clue: Fans before TV.”
