Celtic could miss out on Brandon Soppy as French Champions Lille look set to launch a bid for the highly-rated right back. The 19-year-old looks set to leave Rennes this summer with a number of sides interested. Udinese and Watford are also quoted as being interested but it appears to be between Celtic and Lille for the French U19.

According to Mercato, Celtic are playing a waiting game with their move for Soppy which could allow the surprise Ligue 1 winners to make a bid for Soppy. Celtic have been linked with Soppy and his Rennes teammate Sacha Boey along with Aurelio Buta of Royal Antwerp.

The Brittany side are believed to have set a transfer price of £4.3m to release Soppy from his current deal, which expires next season. Celtic have been set a price that is a fair valuation for an extremely talented youngster.

The report says that the player is expected to leave but Celtic can ill-afford missing out on Soppy given the lack of depth at right-back that we currently have. The manager will know that signing Soppy or a suitable alternative is a must if we are to put ourselves in a favourable position regarding qualifying for The Champions League and winning back the league title.

Buta or Boey are potentially more first-team ready than Soppy but the promising starlet certainly offers a more interesting proposition given his age and raw attributes.
