Celtic have written to the SFA as the fallout continues from Sunday’s 3-3 draw at Ibrox. The Scottish Champions have requested clarification over the awarding of the second half penalty as the footage shown to referee John Beaton did not include the moment that Alistair Johnston made contact with the ball.

As reported by Record Sport, Celtic have written to the SFA over their concerns about the decision making in the Glasgow Derby.

A club spokesperson confirmed that they had made representations to the SFA, which refers to the decision to reward Silva for diving.

“The club has been in correspondence with the Scottish FA regarding the VAR process throughout the season, and has also played an active part in the SPFL working group which is seeking to work with the Scottish FA to improve standards for all clubs. We have raised our further concerns regarding the VAR process in the match with the Scottish FA and await a response.”

Brendan Rodgers’ side were in control of the fixture when Beaton adjudged Fabio Silva have to dived within the Celtic box, awarding the Portuguese winger a yellow card.

Nick Walsh on VAR instructed Beaton to conduct an on-field review, which resulted in the awarding of the penalty – which Tavernier dispatched. Celtic believe that the on-field call from Beaton was correct and the referee wasn’t given the full picture of the incident when shown replays at the side.

Once again, the incident follows a pattern of the technology not being appropriately used. The club await a reply but it follows a trend this season, which is particularly concerning.

The success of this season is within the club’s grasp and six wins on the bounce will result in the league title returning to Celtic Park.
