Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has waxed lyrical over Manchester United’s in-form striker Rasmus Hojlund, while comparing his technique of finishing to Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The 21-year-old recently became the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six consecutive games.

Hojlund’s upturn in form has coincided with winger Alejandro Garnacho playing off the right in recent weeks. This gives United more balance in attack because up until now we’ve been waiting for Antony rekindle the form he showed under Erik ten Hag at Ajax.

Fabregas spoke about Hojlund’s form and ability on a recent podcast which makes for good reading.

The former Spain international was linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout his career, but a transfer never materialised and I think he might have David Moyes to ‘thank’ for that…

“He attacks the box really well, he’s very smart,” said Fabregas, as per The Planet Premier League podcast with Nedum Onouha.

“He’s a kind of Van Nistelrooy type of finisher when he gets his confidence. I believe he can be a really top striker for United in the future.

“When you have this plus a very good player one-on-one (Garnacho) who is making crosses all the time, you will always get the best out of him.”

Former Man City defender Onouha added: “He looked like a player that has a lot of belief in himself, knows they can score goals, and knows they’re an important part of how the team works.

“I think earlier in the season, through injuries, he didn’t play as much as he’d like to, bearing in mind he’s a young player, but he looks good.

“He has a real value in there. He’s playing to his strengths, using his strengths and he’s probably believing every time he steps on the field he’s going to score.”
