Mark Robinson has been named the new head of the Chelsea development squad.

We reported earlier that Andy Myers had been shifted across to be a loan development technical coach (or something), and the club noted in that statement that a new head coach would be announced for the dev squad “in due course.”

Well we didn’t have to wait to wait too long. They’ve now confirmed that Robinson – who has worked mainly at Wimbledon in a number of roles, including as head coach for 14 months.

The fact that the Dons share a ground with the Chelsea youth teams must have helped his cause, and his experience working all the way through the age rankings up to senior level is a bonus.

The dev squad missed relegation by the skin of their teeth this year, and it seems like the club have moved quickly to try and avoid a similar situation next year.
