Tom Roddy from The Times has given an update on Chelsea’s search for a new midfielder and claims the club has put together a list of potential targets to add quality and depth to their midfield, with Tyler Adams said to be one name on that list.

Chelsea Consider Tyler Adams Signing From Leeds United

What Interesting Clause Can Chelsea Activate for Adams?

Roddy claims that the Blues are considering a move for Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams, who was relegated from the Premier League last season. It’s stated that the USMNT captain has an interesting relegation clause in his contract that could make it easier for them to sign him.

This clause would allow him to leave Leeds for the right price now that they have been relegated to the Championship. However, it is stated that the 24-year-old is currently injured and is not expected to be able to start the season with Leeds in their upcoming clash against Cardiff City on Sunday, August 6.

Adams only joined the English side last year from RB Leipzig for around £20 million, after spending three years with the German club. Roddy states that alongside the USMNT midfielder, Chelsea are also considering a move for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez after failing to sign him in 2023.

What Else Are Chelsea Working On?

After being active in selling and recruiting this summer, with the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Angelo Gabriel making the move to Stamford Bridge. Mauricio Pochettino’s side appears to be pushing to get more deals done. They have recently confirmed the signing of French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Stade Rennes while also looking to bolster their backline, with AS Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi rumoured to be closing on a move.

Apart from this, Roddy states that Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo remains their top target for the time being after reports that they had an £80 million bid rejected for him. As talks continue with the Seagulls on that deal, it appears that the Blues are keeping other options open, like Adams. The Leeds United midfielder was hailed as “exceptionally bright” by Gary Linekar last year and would add more depth to the Chelsea midfield.
