Christian Eriksen reportedly rejects Manchester United transfer

It was said ahead of this past weekend that Brentford were "resigned" to losing star midfielder Christian Eriksen, who has repeatedly been linked in rumors and stories with Tottenham Hotspur, his former Premier League club, and Manchester United. A Monday report then added United made "initial contact" with representatives for the 30-year-old.

There's a new twist to the story on the first day of summer.

Jamie Jackson of the Guardian reports that Eriksen rejected a move to United in favor of "either remaining at Brentford or returning to Tottenham." Football insider Fabrizio Romano later tweeted that Brentford coach Thomas Frank is at least somewhat hopeful Eriksen will stay put for a full season:

Eriksen spent seven years at Tottenham before he joined Inter Milan in January 2020, where he won a Serie A title playing under current Tottenham boss Antonio Conte. The midfield maestro then nearly lost his life when he suffered cardiac arrest at the UEFA European Championship in June 2021, but he completed a heroic return to competitive play with Brentford in January and tallied one goal and four assists across 11 appearances through the end of the 2021-22 season.

Of the three English clubs mentioned as potential destinations for Eriksen, only Tottenham qualified for the upcoming campaign's UEFA Champions League competition. It's believed Eriksen wants to feature in Europe's top club cup tournament once more, but he could venture outside of the Premier League this summer to do so if he and Tottenham don't come to an agreement.
