One of the areas that AC Milan are expected to make a signing this summer is in defence, and a familiar old name has once again emerged as a target.

As Calciomercato.it write, Lucas Martinez Quarta was one of the players who got on the scoresheet for Fiorentina last night in their rout of relegation-threatened Sassuolo at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

It is a fifth goal in the league for the 27-year-old central defender, making a total of eight goals across all competitions. His performances since joining La Viola mean that he is attracting the attention of several clubs too.

The former River Plate man is of interest to Milan who need defensive reinforcements, even if to date there has been no direct or indirect contact between the parties.

Likewise, there are currently no ongoing negotiations between Fiorentina and the player’s entourage to discuss the contract extension, which expires in 2025.

The possibility of reaching a new agreement is not excluded, there is no closure on this front, but Martinez Quarta’s situation needs to be monitored especially if Milan come forward and offer Champions League football.

Back in 2020, the agent of the defender claimed that Geoffrey Moncada – then the chief scout but now the technical director – had scouted his client several times.
