CONMEBOL suspends Copa America amid COVID-19 concerns in Argentina
CONMEBOL has suspended this summer's Copa America due to COVID-19 concerns in the host country of Argentina.
The South American Football Confederation released a statement Sunday saying it's weighing offers from other countries that have shown interest in hosting the tournament.
The tournament was scheduled to take place from June 13 to July 10, and all 10 CONMEBOL teams were expected to participate.
Argentina went into lockdown last weekend during a seven-day spike with an average of 35,000 COVID-19 cases and 500 deaths per day, according to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
Brazil won the most recent Copa America in 2019 with a 3-1 win over Peru.
