Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta believes Man City star Phil Foden has played ‘the best football’ in Europe this season and warns Milan and Rafael Leao that self-criticism must be followed by concrete action.

Costacurta previewed the upcoming European fixtures on Sky Sport Italia on Wednesday evening.

The Italian legend spoke about the Champions League second leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid, which involves his former Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Costacurta believes the Italian tactician will meet one of the most in-form players in Europe this season.

“Foden has played the best football in Europe this season,” said the Milan and Italy legend.

“Beware, I didn’t say he’s been the best player. He’s played the best football. It’s a tiny difference.”

The 57-year-old also spoke about his former club Milan, who will visit Roma in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final tomorrow, Thursday, April 18, 2024.

The Rossoneri lost 1-0 at San Siro last week and Costacurta expects a reaction, especially from Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese forward seemed extremely focused during pre-match interviews on Wednesday and admitted he should have done more at San Siro last week.

“It was strange to see Leao and Theo struggle and I liked the self-criticism, but Leao must prove it was a case,” argued Costacurta.

“All Milan players must do so, not only Leao. They must do more because they can do more.”
