Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has revealed his belief that the Rossoneri currently have three players who are ‘irreplaceable’ for the team.

Milan have certainly started the new campaign well in the league having racked up an impressive eight wins in their opening nine Serie A games, and they will be looking to make it nine out of ten when they host Torino tonight. The young core has been front and centre of the successes again this season, showing the project is very much alive and thriving.

Costacurta was interviewed by Il Mattino and he spoke about the Rossoneri’s season so far, in particular picking out three names that have stood out to him, with his comments relayed by TMW.

“Tonali is the symbol, but in general they are a very solid team. To the list of irreplaceable players I add Theo Hernandez and Brahim Diaz. Without them they have shown more fatigue,” he said.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has continued his playing career past the age of 40 just as Costacurta did, and the former centre-back believes that he is not quite the match-winner Milan must rely upon but rather now he has been able to pass the baton.

“He is no longer the decisive man. He helped to make the group grow, but now they seem to be able to walk and run alone. Ibra certainly makes those around him play better, but there are some who are more decisive than him.”
