Could coronavirus pandemic cost Paris Saint-Germain Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in transfer window?

The coronavirus pandemic that indefinitely halted the top-tier football competitions in Europe last March will inevitably financially affect clubs and leagues for months and even years to come.

Paris Saint-Germain is just one team that could face difficult discussions whenever the next transfer window opens.

On Tuesday, ESPN's Jonathan Johnson wrote about how PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi admitted to RMC Sport that the club could face financial peril because money set to be earned through television rights likely won't come in unless the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season concludes, in full.
"Financially, the impact of the current events, as well as the uncertainty that it brings with it, is considerable for a club like ours," Al-Khelaifi admitted.

He added: "At the end of the season, we risk suffering colossal losses. We will face that, but nothing will be simple -- it will take time to strike a balance."

Al-Khelaifi also explained he expects PSG players to accept recommended wage reductions while play is suspended due to the virus outbreak.

On Monday, Premier League outfit Arsenal announced manager Mikel Arteta, first-team players, and those on the coaching staff had agreed to pay cuts.

Superstars Neymar and World-Cup winner Kylian Mbappe remain PSG's most-coveted assets, and both have recently been mentioned in transfer rumors. ESPNFC recently touched upon the possibility of Neymar returning to Barcelona later this year:

Earlier this week, Mark Doyle of Goal.com explained that Barcelona or Real Madrid could smell blood in the water and attempt to acquire Mbappe on a discount compared to his market value ahead of the pandemic.

There remains uncertainty regarding when, or even if, the Ligue 1 season will finish this year. Per beIN Sports, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas wants French football governing body the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to push the latest scheduled campaign restart from June 17 to September.
