The Venezuelan Football Federation want to convince Milan loanee Daniel Maldini to switch over from the Italy national team, possibly ending an Azzurri dynasty.

First there was Cesare Maldini, who represented Italy from 1960 to 1963, before his son Paolo famously wore the Azzurri shirt from 1988 to 2002, proving his status as one of the best defenders in world football. Now the third generation Maldini, Daniel, is working to make his path in Serie A.

The younger Maldini, who has never made a senior appearance for Italy, has recently started to impress on loan with Monza, scoring three goals and providing one assist in his last five league outings, possibly doing enough to earn a definitive move in the summer.

As reported by Tuttosport, The FVF (Venezuelan Football Federation) are looking to convince Maldini to switch international representation from Italy to Venezuela, hoping to add him to their squad whilst he circles the fringes with Italy.

The 22-year-old is eligible through his mother Adriana Fossa, who was born in Venezuela and holds Italian origins through her father’s family.

Maldini wouldn’t be the first Italian to represent Venezuela, with former Frosinone and Udinese striker Massimo Margiotta and Pisa captain Ernesto Torregrossa both joining La Vinotinto.
