Could New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long join Liverpool?

United States Men's National Team and New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long is reportedly attracting attention from multiple international clubs.

Per Jeff Carlisle of ESPN, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool are the latest and biggest team, to date, linked with the 28-year-old who could join the English outfit on a loan deal. Liverpool have dealt with multiple back-line injuries during the 2020-21 campaign and reportedly are looking to bolster their back line before the transfer window closes at 6 p.m. ET on Monday. They sit fourth in the Premier League table on 37 points, four behind leaders Manchester City.

Earlier in the week, Steven Goff of The Washington Post tweeted that Championship side Reading are among teams in England and France keeping tabs on Long with Deadline Day looming.

Long has been a mainstay in New York's defense since 2017 and won Major League Soccer Defender of the Year for the 2018 season. He's made 18 appearances with the U.S. senior team and is currently training with the squad ahead of a friendly versus Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday. He's expected to play in that contest.

According to Tom Bogert of the official MLS website, no club has yet made an official offer for Long's services.
