Cristiano Ronaldo addresses notion he convinced Buccaneers' Tom Brady to end retirement

Manchester United and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted he didn't convince quarterback Tom Brady to end his retirement and return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Psychology, see. I’m a good psychologist," Ronaldo joked about an encounter he had with Brady back in March during what's become a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, per Jenna Lemoncelli of the New York Post. "I think he had taken the decision a few weeks before that. He’s a very smart guy who knows a lot about football [soccer], we had a nice conversation. I don’t think that had anything to do with it, though."

Brady famously announced his retirement from playing on Feb. 1 and later flew across the pond. During his trip overseas, the seven-time Super Bowl champion attended a March 12 Premier League match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford that United won 3-2 thanks to a Ronaldo hat-trick. Following the game, Brady and Ronaldo posed for pictures and enjoyed a friendly on-the-pitch conversation that some believed at the time included TB12 confirming he was returning to the Buccaneers for another season:

Brady announced his un-retirement on March 13 and may continue playing beyond the ongoing NFL season.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has left United fans fuming over criticisms he made about the club and manager Erik ten Hag while speaking with Morgan ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup. ESPN's Rob Dawson reported Friday that United are seeking to terminate Ronaldo's contract before Premier League play resumes next month and could also sue him for breach of contract.

"Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview," the club said in a brief statement. "We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion."
