The Colorado Rapids announced the signing of defender Sam Vines to a four-year contract on Monday.

The deal runs through 2027 for Vines, a homegrown player who returns to the Rapids after three seasons at Royal Antwerp FC in the Belgian Pro League.

Vines, 24, contributed two goals and two assists in 58 matches for Royal Antwerp.

The Colorado Springs native had two goals and four assists in 53 MLS matches with the Rapids from 2018-21, making his debut for the club at age 19.

"We are incredibly happy to bring Sam back home to the Rapids. He is an exceptional player, who has gained valuable experience abroad in Europe, and we're thrilled to add his talents to our group" Rapids president Padraig Smith said. "His career progression and success at both club and international levels are a testament to his quality, hard work and the investment our club has made in developing young local players and our 'Drive to Youth' philosophy."

Vines had joined Royal Antwerp on a transfer in August 2021. He helped the club win the Belgian First Division, Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup in 2023.
