David de Gea became a free agent in the world of soccer on Friday night but he is no longer a free agent in his romantic life.

De Gea, 32, married Spanish singer Edurne, 37, this weekend in Menorca.

The couple first met in November 2010, around seven months before De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid.

They have one child together, a daughter named Yanay, who was born in 2021.

On Saturday evening, De Gea and Edurne posted three wedding photos on Instagram alongside the caption: "We couldn't be happier!"

De Gea also tweeted: "Life is beautiful".

The newlyweds received messages of congratulations on social media from soccer stars past and present, including Sergio Aguero, Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso, as well as the wife of United midfielder Casemiro.

United's official club account also commented on the couple's Instagram post, writing: "Felicidades, David".

This came less than 24 hours after De Gea was technically released by United.

His most recent contract with the Red Devils expired at midnight on June 30.

De Gea had signed that contract back in 2019 when he became the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world with a weekly wage in the region of £400,000.

According to The Athletic, De Gea accepted the offer of a new contract on significantly less money earlier this year, but the document was then not signed by the club.

After revoking that offer, United reportedly later submitted another proposal with an even lower salary.

That revised offer is still said to be on the table, meaning De Gea could still choose to rejoin United ahead of the 2023/24 season.
