Manchester United are reportedly close to agreeing the first deal of the summer transfer window.

As the Red Devils’ rivals have exploded into life in the transfer market, Erik ten Hag looks set to begin his pre-season preparations without any new additions to his squad.

Considering Man United have already parted ways with Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba, there is plenty of work to do before the summer’s done.

That’s why the United fans will be thankful to hear that they are finally set to complete a deal, their first of the summer, and one which they have now been waiting on for some time.

Frenkie de Jong was considered one of the most promising young talents on the planet while at Ajax. He has struggled to kick on since opting to sign for Barcelona.

A reunion with ten Hag could be exactly what he needs to continue his development into a top midfielder. That deal now very much looks as though it’ll go through in due course.

While it looks like a superb signing for Man United, it needs to be just the beginning of their summer makeover. Far more business needs to be conducted in order to bridge the gap.
