AC Milan great Marcel Desailly says there's more to come from Fikayo Tomori - if the club's coaching staff can focus on his weak points.

Like Tomori, Desailly is also a former Chelsea defender and has kept tabs on his development since he left Stamford Bridge for the Rossonero. The Frenchman is a fan, but believes Tomori still has another gear in his game.

Speaking to BoyleSports about Premier League odds, Desailly told Tribalfootball.com: "Fikayo Tomori has done well at AC Milan since he moved from Chelsea. I believe the people around him are not getting the best from him, though. They made him play at full-back too sometimes. He needs continuity in his position to express himself.

"I noticed also, he believes too much in his agility and physical impact. He can sometimes believe he has too much time. The potential is still there for him to grow though."

Desailly also spoke of the sacking of former Milan teammate Paolo Maldini as technical director. Both Maldini and Ricky Massara were shown the door at the end of last season.

Desailly believes the board have overestimated the talent in the squad - and underestimated the work of Maldini in building Stefano Pioli's squad.

He said, "It's an internal decision, but Maldini really wanted to have a budget to buy and control players. It was obvious. They overestimated the team, even though you win the league, you need to recruit.

"Probably they disagreed with Maldini on recruitment when we had a real opportunity to go to the next level, so it's a political and internal issue."
