Ex-Juventus winger Angel Di Maria returned to his former club Benfica at the start of the summer transfer window following one campaign in Serie A. The Paris Saint-Germain icon has reminisced his time in Turin and regretted parting ways with the Turin giants on a sour note.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster DSports Radio (via Tuttomercatoweb), Di Maria reflected on the previous season.

“It’s been a difficult year for the club. I’ve never understood what happened during the season. I tried to understand it and do my duty when I had to play. I didn’t play much and in the end I was sorry.”

Di Maria was extensively linked to staying at Juventus for an extra year, but an extension never materialized, forcing him out of the club following a tumultuous season.

“I had a lot of talks with the Juve managers, it wasn’t what I had discussed with the coach. Sometimes you realize that words aren’t worth much. Saudi Arabia contacted me and then more calls arrived. They were amazing offers, but I chose with my heart, I chose Benfica.”

The Argentina icon scored 8 goals in 40 appearances for the Bianconeri, having arrived from PSG in the summer of 2022.
