Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport in the lead-up to Saturday’s Derby della Madonnina, Diego Milito gave his former side Inter a slight upper hand over arch-rivals Milan. As the early Serie A pacesetters, the Lombard giants go head-to-head in a top-table six-pointer at the iconic Giuseppe Meazza.
With both sides starting a new top-flight campaign with a 100% three-game record for the first time since 1971/72, much more than just the usual bragging rights are on the cards. Inter have asserted themselves as a dominant force in this match-up under Simone Inzaghi’s tutelage, winning their last four competitive games against Milan ‘to nil.’
Milito expects an evenly-contested game to be in store this weekend. But as a former Nerazzurri, he picked Inter as pre-match slight favorites. Since one of the two winning runs will inevitably halt on Saturday evening, El Principe hopes Milan’s bid to start a new Serie A campaign with a four-game unbeaten run for only the second time since 1995/96 will fall flat.
“A balanced match,” Milito said about the derby, as relayed by FCInterNews. “I don’t see one team dominating the other. But I think Inter are slight favorites.
“They’re playing well, and their confidence is high. In matches like this, that makes the difference. The players know how much quality they have, they’ve looked determined to me in the first few matches.“
Inter fared astonishingly well before September’s international break. Inzaghi’s men won all three league outings via an emphatic 8-0 aggregate scoreline, setting themselves up perfectly for this heavyweight fixture.
