Thomas Tuchel has had quite the couple of years in football, after going from being sacked at PSG to then winning the Champions League with Chelsea in his first season there.

The German coach was dumped by PSG and then soon joined Chelsea as their head coach replacing a sacked Frank Lampard in the usual managerial dramas.

Chelsea fans certainly see it as PSG’s loss and their gain, and they have absolutely every right to think that.

But PSG chief Leonardo thinks differently, and he has been explaining why he chose to sack Tuchel after a ‘complicated’ period between them and a ‘difficult’ relationship.

It appears there were many things the pair didn’t agree on and the tension just got too much in the end.

“The separation was natural,” Leonardo said as reported by Tribal Football.

“The previous year, complicated situations destabilised the environment. It is human that points of view differ, it was difficult to establish a relationship between us. Even though I think it was difficult, he came before me, with a way of working. Then it’s a very complicated year, we were eliminated by United in the round of 16 when there was so much waiting.

“He loses in the final of the Coupe de France, there is a complicated movement around him. It destabilises everything. Then comes back someone who was already there, who has a relationship with the president and the owners and decides to do things differently. It was difficult to establish anything between us.

“I am sincere, between us: I think this stuff has been good for a year. It was an internal contrast that energised everyone. We reached the final of the Champions League, lost against Bayern. In the long term, it would have been difficult, it was towards the end of the contract, we decided earlier.”

These are some of the concerns expressed by Chelsea fans before Tuchel was appointed, but there is no doubt we have a world class manager at the reigns right now and things are going very well for all involved. Long may that continue!
