Italy no.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to take part in his first ever Champions League semi-final after helping Paris Saint-Germain in their 4-1 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on Tuesday night.

The Parisians fought back having fallen 1-0 behind on the night after Raphina hit the net 12 minutes in. That goal put PSG 4-2 down on aggregate.

However, strikes from Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha and a second-half brace from Kylian Mbappe turned the tie on its head completely.

Donnarumma and PSG are now set for a two-legged semi-final date with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, who also endured a chaotic quarter-final second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

After full-time in Barcelona, Donnarumma stopped to chat briefly with the Italian press, to whom he spoke of his excitement ahead of the penultimate set of 2023-24 Champions League fixtures.

“It’s my first Champions League semi-final,” he told Sport Mediaset. “I’m really excited. Winning here wasn’t easy, but we always believed in ourselves and we have done well.

Donnarumma produced a particularly important save when up against Barcelona talisman Robert Lewandowski on Tuesday, which he played down in his post-match analysis.

“Every save is important, in the Champions Leahgue you can’t afford to do anything wrong. I’m happy with the team’s performance, I’ll enjoy it tonight, but from tomorrow we have to think about the league.”

PSG are still in with a chance of securing an historic treble, with the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France and Champions League all left to play for.

“We don’t talk about it much in the dressing room, I’m quite superstitious. We’ll all do our calculations. It will be a massive game against Borussia Dortmund, we’ll go and play openly,” he said.
